The information in this page is still quite up to date. Schedules and costs of ALS buses may need an update
Please be aware that these days ALS buses most of the time are already fully booked 2 or 3 days before departure. Of course they always keep some seats available for last minute bookings of special relations.
It will be our pleasure to book ALS bus tickets for you if you stay with us.
TRANSPORT – PARAPAT – BUKITTINGGI - PADANG
OCTOBER 26, 2015
Early September 2015, we did the Trip ourselves with a private car and one of our regular drivers. Going to Bukit Tinggi we did in one day. For coming back we took two days. for a more detailed description of the route and places to see or stop ref:

I have incorporated some of our experiences below, in the earlier version of this page.
December 21, 2014
ALS buses are still operating as per the schedule below. Which means 3 buses per day. Since October 11, the cost of the seats have gone up as result of the new petrol cost. I have changed the prices below so the prices are the current prices. Today, December 21, the 15.00 h bus is already full.
October 11, 2014
In the morning our guests asked us to arrange for bus tickets to Padang later in the day. We learned that there are now 3 ALS buses per day from Parapat to Bukittinggi. The 15:00 h and the 21:00 h have as final destination Bukittinggi and the 19:00 h bus carries on to Padang. Cost of the tickets to Bukittinggi is Rp 300.000,--, cost of the ticket to Padang is Rp 330.000,-- In the morning we learned that the 17:00 h and the 21:00 h buses were already fully booked. We managed to get our guests on the 15:00 h bus to Bukittinggi, with the plan that in Bukittinggi they would arrange themselves for the stretch to Padang. We are waiting on the report of the guests on how this worked out.
Public Bus: ALS
The public bus ALS serves Bukittinggi from Parapat twice a day starting around 15.00 h and 21.00 h from the Parapat Bus Terminal. Cost of a seat is Rp 300.000,-- per person. The bus just reports to the Terminal for a few minutes for dropping off passengers or picking up passengers boarding the bus. Depending on traffic conditions the bus may be early or late, which makes it easy to miss the bus. Better is to book the ticket through one of the regular Parapat transporters. In that case the transporter books the ticket for you and the bus will come to pick you up from the loket of the transporter in Parapat. As said the 19.00 h bus carries on to Padang but stops in Bukittinggi.
Sometimes this is cause for confusion as the guest may think that they book a seat with the transporter, while the transporter only assists in booking a seat in the Public Bus (ALS) and arranging that the bus will come to pick up the guest.
En-route from Parapat to Bukittinggi the bus stops only a few times for buying some food or a sanitary stop. The travel time these days is 12 to 16 hrs.
Transportation arranged for by Horas Family Home comes ‘Exclusive and Excellent’ and is more a combination of sightseeing and transportation than transportation only. All our drivers come with a brand new or rather new cars such as Kijang Innova, Avanza, Suzuki APV or similar type and make, with AC. In our drivers you will find safe and reliable drivers who will not smoke in the car. Transportation costs include cost for the driver, petrol, toll road and regular parking fees along the road. On request we will try to find an English speaking driver at no extra costs. Entrance fees of tourist attraction points are not included.
We arrange for transportation form Parapat to Bukittinggi in two ways.
You start from Horas Family Home at 08:00 or 09:00 h in the morning with the ferry to Parapat. From Parapat you will have an easy day time ride to Siporok where you will stay overnight. Cost of the hotel is not included in our transportation costs. The following morning you will be on the road again starting from 08:00 or 09:00 h and you will reach your destination in Bukittinggi in the afternoon.
NOTE: We checked the Hotel in Sipirok and decided not to stay in the Torsibohi Hotel. On our way back we stayed in the Mega Permata Hotel in Padang Sidempuan.
You start from Horas family Home with the 06:45 h ferry to Parapat and you will be on the road at about 08:00 h. At request you will have regular stops to stretch your legs or for lunch / dinner. For your safety and the safety of our drivers you will have two drivers who will take their driving turns. You will reach Bukittinggi around midnight.
